CA Camp Fire Causes Toxic Drinking Water

Paradise Drinking Water Contaminated by Camp Fire

Six months after the deadliest fire in California’s history raged through Paradise, CA, officials report that the drinking water in the town is contaminated with benzene, a chemical that has been linked to leukemia. Gasses emitted from burning homes led to the contamination when the cancer-causing chemical was sucked into the water pipes as water was drawn to combat the blaze. Officials estimate that 90% of the buildings in Paradise were destroyed. Residents have been warned not to drink, cook, bathe, or brush their teeth with tap water at this time.
